There’s a certain kind of quiet that only exists in the early morning.
At Blue Haven, mornings begin slowly — the sun rises gently over the Ohio River as early fog and dew glisten on the stairs and rails of the deck. I greet the day with a warm cup of coffee, the soft chatter of birds gathering at the feeders, and the gentle rhythm of the day just beginning to unfold.
It’s my favorite time of day.
Before the world feels busy, before the to-do list starts calling, there’s a small window where everything feels calm and unhurried.

☕ Coffee on the Deck
Most mornings, you’ll find me outside with my coffee, wrapped in a light sweater if there’s still a chill in the air. The deck has become one of my favorite spaces — a place to sit, breathe, and take in the simple beauty of my surroundings.
The light is softer in the morning. The air feels fresher. Even the quiet feels different.
Something about starting the day with the peace of the morning air instead of the chatter of social media or the chaos of the morning news puts me in a better headspace for whatever comes next.

🐦 The Backyard Comes to Life
Not long after I settle in, the birds arrive.
First come the scouts. The mourning doves sit on my neighbor’s garage roof, watching my approach with the bird food. Soon, the calls go out through the bird network that the bird lady has arrived.
Before long, they gather at the feeders with their own kind of morning routine — cardinals, doves, woodpeckers, sparrows, blue jays, wrens, finches, robins, and chickadees. (Not to mention the occasional Cooper’s hawk, who likes to make its presence known.)
There’s something grounding about watching them. No rush, no noise — just small, steady moments of life happening right in front of you.
They take turns at the feeders, offer bites to their companions, and crunch happily on the seeds scattered below.

🌿 A Walk Through the Garden
After coffee, I usually take a slow walk through the garden.
My front yard is filled with pollinator plants and flowering beauties, which brings joy not only to me but to my neighbors as well — they often stop to take in the activity.
What’s blooming. What’s changed overnight. What needs a little attention.
I’ll tell them how pretty they are or give a pep talk to anything looking a little wilty.
These are the moments that don’t look like much from the outside, but they’re the ones that shape the rhythm of my days.
It’s hard to be in a bad mood when you start your morning smiling at flowers and saying hello to the bees.

🐾 Rocky, of Course
Rocky is never far behind.
Whether he’s keeping watch over the yard or patiently waiting for our next walk, he’s part of every morning here — always alert, always curious, and always ready to follow along.
He’s our number one yard patrol officer, and he takes his job very seriously.

🌿 The Beauty of Simple Mornings
I’ve come to believe that the best parts of the day aren’t the big moments — they’re the quiet ones.
A warm drink. A soft breeze. The sound of birds in the background.
These small rituals don’t just start the day — they set the tone for everything that follows.
And here at Blue Haven, that gentle beginning is something I’ve come to treasure.
And if you linger here long enough, you might just start to notice those quiet moments in your own mornings, too.
xoxo
